RULES FOR HORTICULTURE SECTION

Unless otherwise stated, all exhibits must be the property of the exhibitor and must have been grown by him/her for at least two months prior to the Show.

The Committee reserves the right to visit, before or after the Show.

Any protest must be made in writing and delivered to the Secretary within one hour of the judging of the particular class, stating the ground on which the protest is made, and any person lodging a protest must deposit £5 with the Secretary, which sum will be forfeited if the protest is found to be frivolous, and all protests and questions of dispute shall be referred to the Committee whose decision is final and from which there shall be no appeal, legal or otherwise.  

On the relative merits of the exhibits the decision of the judges shall be final.

All exhibits, personal property, etc. shall be at the risk of the exhibitors and the Society shall not be liable for compensation for loss or damage from any cause whatsoever.

Judging will commence at 10.30a.m. and the public will be admitted at approximately 1.00p.m.

Exhibits must not be removed before 4.00p.m.

All cakes to be covered by 'clingfilm'

Maximum of 3 entries per class

All exhibits in the Domestic Section to be Home-Made.

Points awarded: 3 for 1st; 2 for 2nd; 1 for 3rd.

Entries taken on field on Show day.

The Selwyn Evans Perpetual Award, kindly donated by Daphne and Tomos Evans, Coedhirion for the best overall exhibit in the show.  It could be a livestock entry or an item from the marquee competitions.   It will be judged by the show Presidents.  The Committee will present a Replica for an exhibitor winning it three times in succession.

TEISEN FFAIR LLANDDAROG


Roedd Llanddarog ar un o ffyrdd y porthmyn ac un o gynhwysion y teisennau oedd cwrw. Byddai hyn o gymorth i’w cadw mewn cyflwr da yn hirach ar siwrnau faith y porthmyn i farchnadoedd neu borfeydd brasach.

Cynhwysion (i tua 6 teisen):
12 owns / 350 gram blawd codi
8 owns / 225 gram menyn
6 owns / 175 gram siwgr
3-4 llwy fwrdd o gwrw
4 owns / 110 gram cwrens, syltanas, ryfon neu ffrwyth cymysg

Dull:
Cymysgu y blawd gyda siwgr a rhwbio y menyn i mewn, cymysgu y cwrw i wneud toes meddal. Rowlio allan ar fwrdd wedi flawdio i drwch o tua cwarter i hanner modfedd. Torri i gylchoedd a gwasgu y ffrwyth i wyneb y deisen. Coginio mewn tymheredd canolig (375 gradd F / Marc 5) am tua 15 munud.

LLANDDAROG FAIR CAKES

Llanddarog was situated on one of the drover’s routes and a major ingredient of the cakes was beer.    This helped keep them in good condition for a long time on the drovers’ journey to markets or better grazing land.

Ingredients (for approximately 6 cakes):
12 oz / 350 grams self-raising flour
8 oz / 225 grams butter
6 oz / 175 grams sugar
3-4 tablespoons beer
4oz / 110 grams currants, sultanas, raisins or mixed fruit

Method:
Mix the flour and sugar together and rub in the butter, mix in the beer to form a soft dough. Roll out on a floured board to a thickness of quarter to half inch thickness. Cut into rounds and press the fruit into the surface. Cook in a moderate oven (375 deg F / Mark 5) for about 15 minutes.
